Cabell’s blacklist
Cabell’s Blacklist became the most anticipated and long-awaited product on the academic publication market since the disappearance of Beall’s List.
Cabell’s Blacklist is presented by its creators, Cabell’s, the scholarly analytics company from Beaumont, Texas, as the “the only blacklist of deceptive and predatory academic journals.” However beneficial there are some downsides to this list: it costs money while Beall’s list was free. They also do their analysis hidden from the view of the public. This does not allow publishers or scientists publishing in their journals to reply before the blacklist is published. In this sense they are making the same error Beall made with his list.
In addition, Cabell’s blacklist is not limited to open access journals which can be cause for conflicts of interest (Strielkowski, 2018).
