Reporting of systematic reviews

In order to improve the reporting of systematic reviews, the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) Statement was published (Moher 2009). PRISMA provides guidance to authors of systematic reviews on the minimum set of items to report. Incomplete reporting can be seen as a form of research waste, as detailed information regarding the conduct of a systematic review is essential for critical appraisal, interpretation, and eventually implementation of its results (Chalmers 2009; Simera 2010; Glasziou 2014).
